THE MONTREAL MOTORCYCLE SHOW: A SNEAK PEEK AT THE LATEST MODELS IN THE STREET/PERFORMANCE, ADVENTURE, DUAL SPORT/OFF-ROAD, SPORT, SCOOTER AND THREE WHEELER CATEGORIES

Montreal, February 13, 2017 – With dozens of new models on display this year, the Montreal Motorcycle Show is bound to delight all motorcycle fans, from beginners to seasoned riders. From Friday, February 24 to Sunday, February 26 at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, Show attendees will discover the latest innovations from the world’s top manufacturers: Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki, BMW, Honda, Ducati, Triumph, and many more.

In addition to the categories presented below, the industry’s leading manufacturers will also unveil new models in the small displacement, retro and street groups. Here’s just a taste of the highly anticipated 2017 models featured at this year’s Show.

Street/performance

Ducati Monster 797: An icon within everyone’s reach

Sporty, compact and minimalist, yet sophisticated and contemporary, this bike is the gateway to the Ducati world for those looking for an easy, intuitive ride and sheer sports enjoyment.  Its elegant, muscular and quintessential Monster design, perfectly integrates the wide handlebar, tank, trellis frame, engine and double-sided swingarm. Its clean, slim line enhances the designer elements that are in fact structural components, such as the traditional Ducati trellis frame created as a single piece. Every element expresses a high level of stylistic and technical research.

Kawasaki Z900: Ultimate supernaked performance

Each twist of the throttle is rewarded with crisp, exhilarating acceleration and a sublime balance of power and dynamism. Its ultra-light chassis lends itself to spirited sport riding and maximum pleasure. With its Horizontal Back-link suspension, the shock unit is almost horizontal, and because it’s also very close to the bike’s centre of gravity, the shock unit greatly contributes to mass centralization and improved handling.

Suzuki GSX250R: The urban sportbike

Whether in town or on the open road, this fully faired street machine brings the excitement and satisfaction of Suzuki’s sportbike heritage to a broader audience. Featuring athletic good looks, responsive yet easy-to-control performance, a broad power band, nimble handling, class leading fuel efficiency and a comfortable riding position, the GSX250R is as at home on the daily commute as well as touring long distances. Every aspect related is optimized to tap the bike’s full potential and deliver pure delight.

Yamaha FZ-10: Calling all thrill-seekers

Power, agility and ease of handling: this bike offers all this and much more thanks to its R1-derived engine, chassis and fully adjustable suspension. Experienced riders will appreciate its comfortable, upright riding position, torquey power delivery and corner-carving precision. The lights, intake ports, combustion chamber and camshafts have all been redesigned to achieve outstanding “rideability” in a wide variety of conditions. Its distinctive exterior style is defined by a dynamic mass-forward silhouette.

Adventure

BMW R 1200 GS Rallye and Exclusive: Perfection meets passion

The GS is second to none, as amply evidenced by its multiple awards and outstanding road tests by the trade press. Its latest model goes a step further in terms of touring and off-road performance. Its 125 HP (92 kW) flat twin boxer engine, at once high-torque and economical, guarantees riding pleasure no matter where you’re headed. Its reliability is legendary, as is its responsiveness. And with new electronic assistance features that include electronic suspension adjustment, the R 1200 GS has once again become the benchmark for the ultimate in riding – at the push of a button.

KTM 1090 Adventure R: The world at your fingertips

Its suspension, off-road wheels and tough, fuel-efficient engine are ready to rumble. Decades of rally victories roar within. This model offers the same state-of-the-art technology as the celebrated KTM 1290 Adventure R, and even though its engine capacity is somewhat smaller, with 125 hp, it’s still big on power.

Kawasaki Versys-X 300 ABS: Your ticket to adventure

Designed as the ideal travel partner, the Versys-X 300 is built for adventure. Its 296 cc twin-cylinder engine makes it a one of a kind machine. Its lightweight chassis and long-travel suspension provide sporty and nimble handling, whether for commuting or long-distance riding.

Dual sport/off-road

Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled: Straight out of the California desert and mountains

The Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled is an enduro version, inspired by the world of off-road motorcycles that made history in the United States in the 60s and 70s. Its name refers to standard motorcycles over 500 cc that were modified by riders for use in the California desert. Its strong off-road character is present throughout its design, from the higher seat and reinforced frame to the fully adjustable suspension, front headlight grid and engine protection plates. Rounding out the Scrambler Desert Sled are new Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires on spoked 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels.

Honda CRF250 Rally: Adventure calls

A compact and sophisticated liquid-cooled DOHC 249 cc single-cylinder 4-stroke engine produces smooth and consistent torque at low rpm, plus excellent high rpm performance. The engine’s wide spread of power makes the CRF250 easy and confidence-inspiring to ride, while delivering impressive fuel economy. Enhancements to the engine’s intake and exhaust systems boost horsepower by a full 10% over the 2016 model.

Suzuki RMX 450Z: Hit the trails

Descended from the World Championship winning RM-Z450, the RMX 450Z is rewriting the rules for serious off-road riders. Key features include a powerful 449 cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke engine and a slim, aggressive frame and body. Also setting it apart are its electric starter, full function dual-mode instrument cluster, enduro lighting and added protection for its chassis.

Sport

Suzuki GSX-R1000R: The king of sportbikes

The Suzuki GSX-R1000R is redefining what it means to be the ultimate sportbike. Its chassis makes it the lightest, most compact, most aerodynamic and best handling GSX-R1000 ever. Cradled in the new aluminum frame is an all-new engine that uses an exclusive variable valve timing system and ride-by-wire throttle bodies for a wide spread of power, while delivering smooth and precise throttle response. Its advanced electronics package includes selectable performance modes, with the motorcycle enhancing and fine tuning rider inputs.

Ducati SuperSport: A new concept of sport

Always at ease, whether in the big city or out on the highway, this bike is decisive when faced with out-of-town hairpin turns. The SuperSport balances comfort and versatility with no compromise made to its sport profile. Excitement and riding pleasure are guaranteed. This road-going sportbike allows one and all to indulge their sport instincts anywhere, anytime. Its lines create dynamic shapes that are visually compact and light. Its design integrates elements typical of Ducati sportbikes, such as the single-sided swingarm, sculpted tank and compact lateral silencer with two overlapping exists, which leave the rear wheel, with its “Y” spoke design, fully visible.

Honda CBR 1000RR: Total control, total enjoyment

This model is lighter, more powerful and easier to handle. Its 16-valve DOHC engine has received an impressive array of improvements for 2017, resulting in a 10 hp increase and contributing to a significant overall weight reduction. Yet even with a 14% advance in power-to-weight ratio (between comparable ABS models), the new CBR maintains its user-friendly character, due in large part to its cutting-edge electronics package, a key feature of the bike’s Next Stage Total Control design concept.

Yamaha YZF-R6: Innovation that leaves the competition in the dust

Since its debut in 1999, the R6 has been the bike of choice for serious 600 class riders and racers. For 2017, it features a host of improvements, including new ABS brakes with larger front rotors, new 43 mm fully adjustable inverted forks, and an R1 inspired body design that’s sure to turn heads. The R6 is full of innovation and technology you won’t find anywhere else.

Scooters

Vespa 946 RED: Back from the future

Vespa 946 is renewing its mythic status by celebrating its traditional values, from the handle grips and fairing proportions to the classic curve of its saddle. It also offers ABS braking and ASR traction control. The 4-stroke 125 cc single cylinder engine is a pre-emptive strike at requirements that may by on the horizon.  And it guarantees the best performance in its category. Electronic injection, three-valve distribution, reduced friction and improved fluid dynamics sharply lower consumption and emissions, establishing a new benchmark.

Piaggio Liberty 150: Evolution and rebirth

Its 16-inch front and 14-inch rear wheels deliver excellent stability and the sensation of climbing onto a motorcycle. With ABS technology and LED lights, the Liberty 150 is stylish, lightweight and easy to ride. It offers great performance while remaining environmentally friendly. It may be new, but it remains faithful to the values that have made the Piaggio brand such a success.

Three wheelers

Spyder F3 Limited: Comfort defined

The F3 Limited offers a relaxed riding position, ultimate cruising comfort and lots of storage to get you through the city or out on the open road. Additional cargo capacity and improved wind protection make it ready for extended adventures. Its unique UFit system lets riders precisely position the pegs and choose the handlebar based on their preferred riding style. Its smooth-riding rear suspension features manual air preload adjustment to optimize rider, passenger and cargo performance.

Polaris Slingshot SLR: Bolder than ever

Under the Slingshot hood: SLR branded exhaust manifold cover and open air intake. With its two-tone paint and colour frame accents, full body graphics, wind deflector and composite brake rotors, it makes quite the statement. The cockpit features cut & sew sport seats, a Sparco steering wheel and an interior LED lighting kit.

Harley-Davidson Freewheeler: The devil’s in the details

Stripped down hot rod style on an easy-handling frame that lets you roll with the confidence of three wheels. You get classic cruiser lines and styling details, such as bobtail rear fenders, slash cut pipes, chrome headlight nacelle, 12-inch mini ape hangers and Enforcer aluminum wheels. The acceleration is instant, thanks to the low-end torque of the all-new Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine. And the 49 mm front forks and adjustable rear suspension ensure an ultra-smooth ride.

Campagna Motors V13R: The roadster with character

Its 1,150 pounds of muscle contain a new mono swingarm, a belt-driven no mess, no maintenance driveline, and an aftermarket ready exhaust system. It also comes in 12 colours. The critics report that it accelerates like a motorcycle and brakes like a car.

All the major brands will be at the Show to unveil the all-new lineup of 2017 models, as well as the latest accessories and technology. Don’t miss it!

Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame to Induct Miguel Duhamel as final member of the Class of 2016

MOTORCYCLING LEGENDS AND CHAMPIONS TO BE HONOURED AT ELEVENTH ANNUAL CANADIAN MOTORCYCLE HALL OF FAME INDUCTION BANQUET AND REUNION

Toronto, ON – February 13, 2017 – The Board of Directors of the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the final member of the Class of 2016. Miguel Duhamel will be honoured at the 11th annual Induction Banquet and Reunion which takes place February 25, 2017 at the Sheraton Montreal Airport Hotel in Montreal.

Montreal’s Miguel Duhamel, now based in Las Vegas, is certainly one of the best road racers ever produced in Canada. He is central in the discussion surrounding Canada’s top ever International competitor, along with earlier stars like Mike Duff as well as Miguel’s legendary father, Yvon.

Miguel, along with older brother Mario and sister Gina, learned to ride on mini bikes at an early age, in public, at race events where father Yvon was working. From there, Miguel climbed the dirt bike competition ladder, eventually winding up in Super Cross.

Duhamel stepped up to Pro, earning Top Rookie Honors in 1988 aboard a wide selection of Monette Sport Kawasakis, backed by Pepsi with support from the family motorhome. He won his first career Pro Superbike National at the end of his rookie season, in the rain, beating Michel Mercier at Shannonville.

Duhamel teamed up with Manager Alan Labrosse, signing with Suzuki Canada for 1989 to ride for the works team run by George Morin and constructed by legendary tuner Mike Crompton.

When the Canadian National season opened, Duhamel won Sanair and round two at Shubenacadie, dramatically edging first Steve Crevier and then Rueben McMurter. At Mosport in June, Duhamel made his World Superbike debut, charging into the lead past Fred Merkel only to fall in the first leg.

Duhamel became the winningest Super Sports rider in history in 1996, with his 28th career win on his way to the title – Miguel remains the most successful racer in the history of the Super Sport category.

Perhaps Duhamel’s most impressive career stat are his five Daytona 200 wins, tied atop the all-time victory list with former rival Scott Russell.

The Chair of the Board and the Directors are pleased and honoured to welcome Miguel Duhamel to the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame and recognize his most successful career both in Canada and the U.S.

Tickets for the 11th Annual Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Banquet and Reunion are available at www.canmoto.ca.

Pascal Picotte To Be Inducted Into Canadian Motorcycle Hall Of Fame

MOTORCYCLING LEGENDS AND CHAMPIONS TO BE HONOURED AT ELEVENTH ANNUAL CANADIAN MOTORCYCLE HALL OF FAME INDUCTION BANQUET AND REUNION

Toronto ON – The Board of Directors of the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the eighth member of the Class of 2016. Pascal Picotte will be honoured at the 11th annual Induction Banquet and Reunion which takes place February 25, 2017 at the Sheraton Montreal Airport Hotel in Montreal.

Pascal Picotte grew up just south of Montreal in Granby, Quebec, near one of the more popular race track of the 1970s and 1980s, Sanair International. Pascal’s initiation into motorcycle racing came via Michel Mercier’s FAST Racing School and by the time he was 18, Picotte was the top ranked Amateur road racer in Canada.

1991 was a break-through year for Picotte, leading the Yamaha Canada effort early in the season and then joining Fast By Ferracci Ducati in the U.S. He won three Pro Twin races for Ducati in the U.S., and was fourth in the Superbike race in Miami. His abbreviated campaign in Canada included wins at Race City in Calgary and the World Superbike round at Mosport.

For 1992, Picotte focused on the U.S., taking eight of nine victories to earn the Pro Twins Championship, as well as a couple of Superbike podiums on his way to fifth in Superbike points. Picotte also took the works Ducati to Canada for a couple of races, edging arch-rival Steve Crevier at the Shannonville finale.

In 1998, Picotte started his famous four-year tenure with the beleaguered works Harley-Davidson superbike, showing considerable promise working with Canadian chassis guru Dale Rathwell. He dazzled at Daytona, and was fourth at Pike’s Peak and Las Vegas. In 2000 Picotte managed to get the VR1000 a first-ever finish in the Daytona 200, winding up ninth. Picotte’s success continued in 2005, although injuries limited him to wins at Mosport and Shannonville. By 2007 he opted to focus on team-management, running Francis Martin, Matt McBride and Chris Peris for Blackfoot-Suzuki.

“Pascal Picotte’s competition career is indicative of the high level of success for entry into the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame. The Chair of the Board and the Directors are pleased and honoured to welcome Pascal to the Class of 2016.”

Montreal, January 31, 2017 – This year promises to be a standout for the Montreal Motorcycle Show, with an exceptional number of new products being featured from around the globe. The 35,000 visitors expected to pass through the turnstiles at the Palais des congrès de Montréal between Friday, February 24 and Sunday, February 26 are sure to be blown away by the more than 500 bikes on display.

Whatever your riding needs or style, we know you’ll enjoy this preview of just a few of the many new models being presented by the major manufacturers at this year’s Show.

Small displacement bikes 500 cc and under

BMW G310R: Riding pleasure for all
Manoeuvrable, sporty and powerful (with its 313 cc engine), the safe and reliable G310R will get you to work or out of the city with ease, while its high quality and extraordinary technology will ramp up the pleasure of the ride. As lightweight as it is robust, this machine’s gold anodized fork, brake calipers and aluminum swing arm are a testament to its superior workmanship. Its cutouts reduce weight, its struts offer stability, and its wide tires improve road adhesion.

Honda Rebel 500 / 300: An authentic cruiser
These machines make their mark with strong low-end torque, a wonderfully smooth power band and an ear-pleasing sound, not to mention 16-inch oversize tires. Honda engineers have designed the engine and exhaust system to perfectly suit cruiser riding. With an accent on lifestyle and attitude, the Rebel is all about expressing individuality. Sportbike elements combine with a distinctly contemporary look for an overall style that’s completely in the present.

Kawasaki Z125 Pro: Nimble yet robust
Following the lead of the popular Z800 and Z1000, the Kawasaki Z125 Pro features a 125 cc air-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine. With its high-quality suspension that easily supports 350 pounds, it’s a fun and comfortable ride for two. Its compact size and 30.7-inch seat height make it a breeze to manoeuvre, even for those new to the fold.

KTM 390 Duke: A classic redesigned
This is a machine designed for the sheer pleasure of riding. It reassures the novice while delivering tons of enjoyment for more experienced riders. Lightweight, powerful and packed with state-of-the-art technology, it guarantees a thrilling ride, whether you’re navigating the urban jungle or a forest of bends. Among its new features are a redesigned, bigger fuel tank, a larger right-side-mounted exhaust system under the engine, and a new inverted fork that’s lighter and less prone to friction.

Retro machines

BMW R nineT Racer: Relive the era of legendary superbikes
This bike sets itself apart through the unmistakeable roar of its engine. Its design is clearly inspired by the motorsports of the 1970s. Its long wheelbase and low-slung handlebars, far to the front, provide a low, sporty seating position, as do the high-set and far-back footrests. It all combines to deliver the sensation of literally lying on the bike. Its powerful air-cooled two-cylinder boxer engine features 1170 cc capacity and 81 kW (110 bhp) of output for a highly dynamic power delivery, even at low speeds.

Suzuki VanVan 200: The fun side of retro
Introducing the bike that puts the FUN in funky. With its distinctive retro look, it is classic cool and ready to groove, whether you’re looking to cruise down the beach, bop around campus, venture outside your campsite, or go anywhere else in between. Its wide and spacious seat provides plenty of room for your plus-one while delivering maximum comfort. Other features include easy push-button starting, an advanced electronic fuel injection system and oversize tires.

Triumph Street Cup: Street racer attitude in a sporty, urban package
Born from the stripped back style of the Street Twin, this bike combines minimal bodywork, a contemporary finish and a host of new urban sport features, such as an authentic bullet seat and removable café racer seat cowl. Its dynamic, urban ergonomics are evident in its dropped handlebars, dedicated rear suspension and two-piston Nissin caliper. Its 900 cc high-torque Bonneville engine is perfectly tuned for either a blast around town or an outing on twisty B-roads. Choose from more than 120 accessories to add even more attitude, style and comfort to this sporty classic.

Yamaha SCR950: Conquer the road
The new SCR950 rises to every challenge. With a distinct scrambler style, leading-edge technology and a pulsating 942 cc V-twin engine, it blurs the line between past and present. In addition to a comfortable upright riding position, it features a 5-speed transmission and belt drive and premium dual shock piggyback rear suspension. It’s perfect for riders who are looking for rugged vintage design but want the reliability of today’s motorcycles.

Guzzi V7III Special: Reinvention meets continuity
This model has been completely reworked to mark its third generation. Offered in three versions (Stone, Special and Racer), it remains true to the other bikes in the V7 line. The Stone features matt black paintwork, the Special puts the emphasis on chrome, and the Racer brandishes the sporty heritage of a brand that’s been on the receiving end of numerous international awards.

Street models

Harley-Davidson Roadster: Power and performance
This bike combines agility, stoplight-to-stoplight power and garage-built custom style to shatter every mold. It is defined by its tucked in, fast back look and corner carving torque. Its refined performance package includes 43 mm inverted front forks, dual disc brakes, adjustable rear suspension and new instrumentation that includes speed and tach. The riding position is aggressive but comfortable, thanks to the new two-up seat, mid-mount controls and lowered bars.

Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special: The road made better than ever
This model features plush, top-end touring technology, a lean bagger style and a state-of-the-art 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with integrated GPS and BOOM audio system. In fact, it has set the world standard for the stripped-down hot rod look. The all new Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine backs up the look with massive torque. The ride is unmatched as well, thanks to the new suspension and Reflex Linked Brembo brakes. Other features include standard ABS, a gloss black inner fairing and a colour-matched fairing skirt.

Triumph Bonneville Bobber: A genuine factory custom
Brutally beautiful, this machine perfectly encapsulates minimalistic styling principles and the purposeful attitude of a genuine Bobber: clean lines and a low stance, single seat, wide flat bars, minimalist bodywork and headlight, sculpted tank, wire spoked wheels with a wide rear wheel, and that all important hardtail look. The brand new chassis, suspension and frame deliver a supremely confident, dynamic and comfortable ride. As for performance, the excellent Bonneville 1200 cc engine features a dedicated Bobber tune for even more torque and power low down. The rider is surrounded in pure Bonneville hot rod sound thanks to twin slash cut sawn off peashooter silencers and unique twin airbox and filters.

Indian Chieftain: The one and only
The Chieftain is powered by a formidable Thunder Stroke 111 engine and packed with features to keep everything – and everyone – in check, including power windshield, 100-watt premium audio system, remote-locking saddlebags, and poised, confident handling. Chieftain owners have clearly earned their bragging rights.

Watch for an upcoming press release on models that include street/performance, adventure, dual sport, off-road, sport, scooters and three wheelers.

All the major brands will be at the Show to unveil the all-new lineup of 2017 models, not to mention the latest accessories and technology. Don’t miss it!
